STUDENT TESTING SCHEDULE FOR JUNE 5TH & 6TH

Students are done with classes at 12:05pm. Students with transportation can leave at this time. If students do not have their own transportation then they can stay for lunch and go to study hall for the rest of the time. NOTE: buses will be at the high school by 2:40pm and will depart the high school at 2:50pm only.

Immunizations

Minnesota law requires children enrolled in childcare, early childhood education, or school to be immunized against certain diseases, unless the child is medically or non-medically exempt.

If proper documentation is not provided, students will be unable to attend school after November 1st, 2023. What you need to do:

1. Contact your health care provider and review your child’s immunization status to make sure they are up to date.

1. If you missed a required vaccination, make an appointment with a healthcare provider or local clinic as soon as possible.

1. Follow up with your students’ school if they have reached out to you regarding your students’ immunization status.

1. Turn in medical (must be signed by a health care provider) and non-medical (must be notarized) exemption forms to your child’s school if they are exempt from immunizations.

Visit the MDH website for vaccine schedules, exemption forms and more information including where to get free/low cost immunizations today. Please reach out to your students’ school for any questions.

Culture Fair thank you:

Centennial Students for Change would like to thank all our students, families and community members that came out to support this year’s Culture Fair. We broke every record we set at last years event.

With your help and support we raised $591 to go towards events such as Culture Fair 2024 and future projects our group is working on. We were able to tally over 470 guests that came through the front doors of CHS to attend the event (that is over 170 more than last year). Special thank you to our teachers that volunteered their time to be our Pie to the Face Fundraiser guests!

Sign up for Summer Cougar Strength! Cougar Strength has become the largest student organization at Centennial and is available for all student-athletes at CHS. Cougar Strength is designed for ALL CENTENNIAL STUDENT ATHLETES who want to develop explosive power, absolute strength, muscular endurance, speed, quickness, agility, flexibility, and cardiovascular fitness. The program achieves these measured athletic qualities from the use of Olympic lifts and their variations along with other movement preparatory exercises; high-intensity, strength-building exercises; exercises containing plyometric properties; proper technique and teaching progressions; and researched program design and periodization.

Centennial High School Choir - Cabaret

Come and join us for Cabaret on Saturday, May 13th at 7:00 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $10.00 and admission includes performances of pop and Broadway selections by Centennial High School choir students, a decadent dessert, and water. A guest panel of speakers representing Private Colleges, the U of M system, the UW system, North Dakota State University, Community Colleges and the MN State College and University systems will give general information about the different types of colleges. Students will gain knowledge about what type of college might be the best fit for them. Additional topics include researching/selecting colleges using the Naviance Student program, college entrance exams, college visits and the application process. All parents and students are welcome.

School Board Hosts Listening Session for the Public

In the District’s ongoing efforts to gather feedback from our stakeholders, the Centennial School Board is hosting a listening session for the public on October 16, 5:30pm-6:15pm. The session will be held in the District Board Room prior to the regularly scheduled School Board meeting.

Listening Sessions are held quarterly to provide the opportunity for community members, staff, parents, and students to meet informally with Board Representatives and the Superintendent to discuss topics in the schools. More information can be found on the Centennial website.

Cougar Cafe is available after school M-Th from 2:50-4pm for help on homework, taking or retaking tests, or as a quiet area to study.

Cougar Cafe is staffed by a math teacher and an English teacher, but they can help in all areas of study.

Thank You from the bottom of my heart to all parents of Centennial High School who pitched in to provide an excellent dinner for teachers working additional hours for the fall in-person Parent teachers conference. Your Chilis, Soups, Salads, breads along with Chips and desserts made a wonderful meal overall. All the teachers and school staff enjoyed it thoroughly and thanked all parents for making this for them. School Principal Mr. Breuning did deliver additional cookies, brownies, chips, and water bottles on a cart to teachers in each of the classrooms later in the day too.

This year we collected some impromptu responses from teachers on how the meals were. Here are some messages we got:-

World language test for college credit: Are you in advanced language classes? Do you have a home language that you speak, read and write? Once again, CHS is offering The Bi-Lingual Seal Test this spring for you to earn college credit for your language abilities, saving you time and $ for your next educational step. Stay tuned to announcements this December for the Bi-Lingual Seal information meetings during Leap A and B. Additional information will be posted outside room W435.

As part of the Centennial School District’s ongoing commitment to safety and security, the District will follow the I Love U Guys Foundation’s Standard Response Protocol (SRP) when an incident may occur in our schools such as safety issues, fire, and tornado. The protocol is based on common language shared by staff, students, and first responders.

Students and staff will practice the safety protocols throughout the school year, October - May. There are five actions—Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter—which can be performed during an incident.

Centennial High School will be practicing Hold, Secure and Lockdown on Dec. 12th and 18th.

Due to the limited parking spaces available, student and families should not expect a permit, even if they had one for a prior semester. This criteria system will best serve the most students possible.

* Because of limited availability, 9th and 10th grade students are not factored in as part of carpools.

Cost of parking permits per semester:

***NEW IN THE 23-24 SCHOOL YEAR*** – Centennial High School student parking permits will cost the same for all student parking lots. The price will be $225.00 per semester.

Students will be issued a physical parking tag and they must have it displayed in their vehicle when parking on campus. Student parking lots will cost the same amount and all spaces in the 3 student parking lots will all be available to student permit holders on a first come, first pick each day. There will be NO differentiation on the student parking lots as far as where students can park with their 2nd semester permit.

The lots formerly known as the Front, Stadium, and Back Lots will be open for whomever parks in the lot depending on the time the student arrives at school.

Please note that the Union Lot will no longer be a student lot. A map of the 3 student parking lots will be included at the end of this notice.

*** Students must have all fees and fines paid before they will be allowed to pay for and pick up their parking permits.

Students that are eligible to receive a permit will be notified by email AND a list will be posted in the East Office by 3:00pm Tuesday, January 16th, 2024.

Students can pay for their parking permits beginning January 16th online through the Infinite Campus Portal under fees. After paying for the parking permit the actual parking permit tag can be picked up in the east office during regular office hours, Monday-Friday from 7am-3pm.

Students need to pay for and pick up their permits by the end of the first day of 2nd semester, Wednesday, January 26th or they may forfeit the permit.

Families should pay for their parking permits online through the Parent/Student Portal in Infinite Campus. If an accommodation is needed for a family to pay by check, please be aware that if the check bounces the permit will be revoked until proper payment is made.

After the Junior and Senior parking applications process has been completed, if any 2nd semester permits are still available, an application process for Sophomore will be made available. This is NOT a guarantee, and 10 grade families should NOT expect to be able to purchase parking permits.

This will be a separate application process and 10th grade families will be notified if this opportunity is available during the 2nd week of 2nd semester.

Attendance Reporting with Campus Parent Portal starting January 2, 2024!

Beginning Tuesday, January 2, 2024, Centennial High School student absences will be submitted through Campus Parent Portal. To submit an absence, you will click on the “Attendance Request” link on the Parent Hub on the Centennial High School website. The current Attendance Google Form is shut down and is no longer taking responses. Campus Attendance will start accepting requests on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.

Centerville Elementary and Centennial Middle School have already implemented the change in absence reporting. All other schools will continue to use the attendance form located on their website through the end of the semester.

Due to the limited parking spaces available, student and families should not expect a permit, even if they had one for a prior semester. This criteria system will best serve the most students possible.

* Because of limited availability, 9th and 10th grade students are not factored in as part of carpools.

Cost of parking permits per semester:

***NEW IN THE 23-24 SCHOOL YEAR*** – Centennial High School student parking permits will cost the same for all student parking lots. The price will be $225.00 per semester.

Students will be issued a physical parking tag and they must have it displayed in their vehicle when parking on campus. Student parking lots will cost the same amount and all spaces in the 3 student parking lots will all be available to student permit holders on a first come, first pick each day. There will be NO differentiation on the student parking lots as far as where students can park with their 2nd semester permit.

The lots formerly known as the Front, Stadium, and Back Lots will be open for whomever parks in the lot depending on the time the student arrives at school.

Please note that the Union Lot will no longer be a student lot. A map of the 3 student parking lots will be included at the end of this notice.

*** Students must have all fees and fines paid before they will be allowed to pay for and pick up their parking permits.

Students that are eligible to receive a permit will be notified by email AND a list will be posted in the East Office by 3:00pm Tuesday, January 16th, 2024.

Students can pay for their parking permits beginning January 16th online through the Infinite Campus Portal under fees. After paying for the parking permit the actual parking permit tag can be picked up in the east office during regular office hours, Monday-Friday from 7am-3pm.

Students need to pay for and pick up their permits by the end of the first day of 2nd semester, Wednesday, January 26th or they may forfeit the permit.

Families should pay for their parking permits online through the Parent/Student Portal in Infinite Campus. If an accommodation is needed for a family to pay by check, please be aware that if the check bounces the permit will be revoked until proper payment is made.

After the Junior and Senior parking applications process has been completed, if any 2nd semester permits are still available, an application process for Sophomore will be made available. This is NOT a guarantee, and 10 grade families should NOT expect to be able to purchase parking permits.

This will be a separate application process and 10th grade families will be notified if this opportunity is available during the 2nd week of 2nd semester.

Attention Robotics Enthusiasts! Registration for Team 2472's Competition Season is OPEN. If you want to join us in the Varsity Sport of the Mind, please have your folks sign up in Campus. Starting in January, practices are Tuesday/Thursday 3-8 pm and Saturday 9-3. We have been getting ready for the past four months and are excited to play this year's game: CRESCENDO! Note - participation in the fall practice season is not required to participate in the Competition Season... and if you have been participating, you STILL have to sign up AGAIN for the Competition Season.

INSTRUCTIONS

Before Registering

· Parent Portal is required to access activity registration. Student Portal does not have access.

· Parent/guardian and students must agree to the terms presented, including the MSHSL Eligibility Brochure.

· Allow for about 10-15 minutes to complete required forms (Eligibility Brochure and Activity Participation).

· Students must have a valid sports physical on file to register. If the sports physical expires anytime during the season, you will need an updated physical. Physical must be received and update to register. Please email sports physicals to CHSActivities@isd12.org to update your students physical on file.

· Students cannot practice or tryout until online registration forms and payment are complete.

· To check your students Athletic Eligibility/Sports Physical Expiration Date go to the Menu of Campus Parent Portal > More > Athletic Eligibility. Sports physicals are valid for 3 years but MUST be valid through the entire season for which you are participating in (start date through state tournament). If your physical expires during the season, you will need to send an new/updated physical for your students file.

· If you do not see the activity you would like to register for, the system is missing a valid physical on file. Please email a copy to CHSActivities@isd12.org. Please allow 24-48 hours for your information to be updated.

I am SO excited to share that registration is open for the Cougar Cubs preschool this spring! Cougar Cubs is a preschool program for children ages 3-5, run almost exclusively by students in my Child Psychology/Development 2 class. The preschool children join us 3 days a week from 10:05-11:05 for about 10 weeks; this year Cougar Cubs runs from March 19th to May 23rd. The high school students always do a FANTASTIC job planning and leading activities and lessons for the children.

I am attaching an informational flyer to this email, if you know someone in the community who might be interested in enrolling their child(ren) in a FUN and FREE program this spring, please consider passing this information along! I will keep the registration window open until February 23rd, or until I reach my cap of 25 children, whichever comes first. If anyone has questions, they can email those to me.

Beginning on February 20th, Centennial High School will offer academic assistance to students during the school day. If a student is in a study hall or is participating in sub-alt due to a teacher's absence, they can receive academic assistance from their peers. Some of our top scholars are volunteering their time to help students with assistance in writing, studying for a test, homework completion, organization, planning, etc. The Academic Assistance Center can be found in the back of the West Learning Commons in Study Room C. When reviewing assessment data, graduation rates, and enrollment in rigorous courses, there are disparities between students of color and their white peers. This is often referred to as the achievement gap. In an effort to close this gap at Centennial, some students along with the Support Services team at CHS are excited to announce a new opportunity for students. We are offering collaborative study time after school on Wednesdays. The purpose of the Close The Gap club is to create a community to boost academic habits, skills, and an optimistic future for students of color. Students can join us in the West Learning Commons each Wednesday from 3:00-4:30 PM beginning on February 21st. There is a bus available to take students home if they need a ride. Busing home after Cougar Cafe is available for students that currently take a bus to school only. The bus leaves for the middle school a few minutes after Cougar Cafe is done for the day. From there students will take the activity bus to their home.

Congratulations to Corynn Harvieux and Noah Marquard on being the 2023-24 Centennial High School recipients of the Minnesota State High School League Triple ‘A’ Award. This award is presented to one senior female and male student-athlete that excels in academics, arts, and athletics. Both Corynn and Noah were nominated for this exceptional award by teachers, directors, and coaches. Both Corynn and Noah embody the true meaning of student-athletes as they are fully committed to academics while maintaining a high-level of involvement in the fine arts and athletics. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor.

Centennial High School seniors Karley Lacis and Josie Niebergall are collecting self-care donations for the Hugo Food Shelf from March 18-29. These donations can be dropped off in Centennial High School's east office during school hours this week. Lacis and Neibergall chose to help the food shelf as their senior project for the National Honor Society (NHS). These donations will go to people in need around the community. Please support them and donate! Self-care donations may include body wash, feminine care items, etc.

Centennial Preschool Registration Opens March 1

School Board Hosts Listening Session for the Public

In the District's ongoing efforts to gather feedback from our stakeholders, the Centennial School Board is hosting a Listening Session for the public on March 18, 5:30pm-6:15pm. The session will be held in the District Board Room prior to the regularly scheduled board meeting. Listening sessions are held quarterly to provide the opportunity for community members, parents, students, and staff to meet informally with board representatives and the superintendent to discuss topics in the schools.

Centennial Preschool Registration is Open

The Centennial School District offers high-quality part-day and full-day preschool experiences. Preschool classes are designed to prepare students, ages 3-5, and families for success in kindergarten, practicing both academic and social skills in a “learning-through-play” philosophy. Full-day classrooms are located at each of the elementary schools in the Centennial School District; part-day classrooms are at the Early Childhood Center. Our preschool has earned a 4 Star Parent Aware Rating. Registrations received between March 1 and March 22 will be included in the placement lottery. Registration will remain open after the lottery for remaining seats. Program and registration information can be found on the district’s website.

The Summer Activity Guide opens for registration beginning March 25 at 8 am. Be sure to check all offerings for summer including Driver Education, Cougar Sports Camps, theater and fine arts offerings, STEM classes and more!

Spring MCA/ ACT Testing

MCA Science (10th Grade Students in Biology Classes) and MCA Math (All 11th Grade Students) will be administered on Wednesday March 27th and Thursday March 28th during the school day. School will follow a modified bell schedule on these days, which can be found here.

Tuesday April 9th the MCA Reading Test will be administered to all 10th Grade Students and the ACT will be given to select 11th Grade Students who have pre-registered. All other students will have an Asynchronous E-Learning Day- and work from home on this day.

Centennial High School will be doing its’ annual Bilingual Seal proficiency test on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings April 9th and 10th.

Upper-level world language students have already pre-registered for this test. Their proficiency level could qualify them for MN University and private college world language class credit.

Seniors will be testing Tuesday, April 9th from 8:00 to 11:00 in the West Learning Commons.

Juniors and Sophomores will be testing Wednesday, April 10th from 8:00 to 11:00 in the West Learning Commons. These students will be excused from their 1st through 3rd hour classes and should plan ahead for the missed class time.

Test takers that don’t have a CHS Spanish, or French class will need to come to a Leap A test prep talk on Thursday March 21, or 28th in W435.

The Centennial DECA Chapter received the State Membership Award at the State DECA Conference for having the largest % growth of any DECA Chapter in the state.
