Dance Team
The Centennial Cougar dance team is committed to developing our athletes' full potential both on and off the competition floor.
We will focus on dance technique, strength and agility, character, academic achievement, and teamwork. Every season will challenge our dancers to work towards our goals as a team and to reach their full potential. The coaching staff holds a high emphasis on developing each dancer to graduate the program with valuable life and leadership skills for a successful future.
Tryouts will be held in the spring and/or winter (at the coaches’ discretion) of the school year as required by the MSHSL. Criteria will be determined by the coaches and will be judged by the coaching staff and/or others experienced in the field of dance. All final decisions will be made by the coach(es). The number of dancers on the team will be determined by the ability of each dancer auditioning.
Once a dancer has made the team they will practice as one large team developing strength, flexibility, and character. Dancers will also be placed on a Jazz and Kick team to compete at their appropriate level of dance. A dancer could be moved to a different team or be placed as an alternate at the discretion of the coach throughout the season.
A spring tryout is held to determine the team for the following winter season. Dancers and parents take part in fundraisers in the spring and summer in preparation for the upcoming season. Dancers attend an optional dance camp in July. The first day of the season begins in October and ends with the State Tournament in February. The Junior Varsity team’s season ends after their last competition in January. Following the end of the season is the awards banquet.
In order to letter, a dancers must compete in a competition during the season at the Varsity level.
