Centennial High School is excited to hire Jen Herrick as head coach for the Sideline Cheer Team!
Jen Herrick has been hired to lead the Centennial High School Sideline Cheer Team. The Sideline Cheer Team is a 15-week program that runs from mid-August through the conclusion of the football season.
“Jen Herrick brings extensive coaching experience with her, but more importantly, her coaching philosophy aligns with the Centennial School District vision and mission,” says Matt St. Martin, Centennial High School Director of Athletics and Activities. “Jen believes that the values learned from participating in education based athletics allow student-athletes to grow as individuals.”
Herrick stated,“ As Head Cheerleading Coach I am excited to continue to connect with the Centennial community, students, and staff-especially under the Friday Night Lights! I look forward to building relationships and skills with my cheerleaders creating a fun and memorable season. Fire up Centennial, let’s go Cougars!”
Athletes interested in being a part of Centennial Cheerleading, will have the opportunity to tryout for the team in the spring. Once the team is chosen, there will be summer practices for all athletes which will be once a week for 1 hour to keep up on skills during the off season. Athletes will also need to take part in annual fundraising events that are schedule during the summer months and throughout the regular season.
Fall Cheerleading
When the season officially starts in August, athletes will participate in "camp week" to learn cheers and stunts before football games begin. Along with "camp week", all athletes will be required to attend weekly weight room sessions which are included in our set practice times. Once school starts, cheerleaders will practice twice a week after school and cheer at home and away football games.
Football Practices: Mondays, Thursdays & Fridays 3:30pm-6pm

Golden Lake Elementary Mentorship Program
Golden Lake Elementary Mentorship Program
Golden Lake mentoring has a long history at Centennial of building relationships between Golden Lake elementary students and High School students. These relationships serve as positive role models for our students. Golden Lake mentors spend one LEAP a week going to Golden Lake elementary to spend the lunch hour with their assigned mentee.
To become a GLE Mentor you must complete the spring training and provide a parent/guardian permission slip. Once these two requirements are met, you will be partnered with a mentee at Golden Lake Elementary. GLE mentors are primarily Juniors and Seniors, with the occasional Sophomore student. If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please contact Ms. Bevins at CHS or Mr. Nelson at GLE.

Knowledge Bowl
Knowledge Bowl is a team academic competition that encourages teamwork, collaboration, effective communication and strategic thinking. Students work together to solve questions related to history, literature, mathematics, science, current events, and everything in between. Competitive meets take place after school at high schools around the Twin Cities. During a meet, teams of 5 begin with the written round, where they work cooperatively to complete a multiple-choice test. Based on their team’s written round score, they’re placed into rooms where 3 teams of 4 compete to answer questions read by a coach or volunteer.

Mock Trial
Students interested in learning how trials are conducted and competing against teams from other schools should consider Mock Trial. Students will learn the facts of a case and will receive training as defense and prosecuting attorneys, as well as witnesses in the case. Each team will learn how to argue both sides of a case, and actual competition against other schools will take place in a courtroom, judged by attorneys or actual judges. This is a good experience for learning how to argue two sides of a case, and is extremely helpful for learning communication and thinking skills, especially thinking "on one's feet."
The season lasts from the end of October until early March. Times for training and practice sessions are yet to be determined; they will either be after school or in the evenings. A student may letter in Mock Trial if they complete all requirements including turning in written assignments, preparing for roles, and attending practices, and competitions.
